Actually, GEOS comes standard with "Text Grabber." The problem is that it only recognizes certain file formats (e.g., Easy Script, etc.). I am looking for a file which will allow GEOS to recognize the Word fiile format. Thanks though! :-) Chris > > > On Sun, 28 Jul 1996, Christopher McLeod wrote: > > > This is a long shot, but does any one out there know of a Text grabber > > file for GEOS which will convert any LATE version (i.e., OLD) Word Perfect > > or Word files? > > > > In other words, I am trying to convert Word files to C= and back again, > > while keeping all (or at least MOST) of the formatting. > > > > I have converted Word files sucessfully back and forth using a "Rich Text > > Format" (in Word) but it strips most of the formatting away. As you read by now, it's possible to send files via e-mail. You would have to uuencode it which is possible by the uxfer program that was mentioned or with Novaterm 9.6 or ACE. Also mentioned some e-mail servers supports uuencoding and uudecoding features. These include Pine and dired, the latter which I use for my sending of files through e-mail. -- Tim Phelps -- The comments I made above are my own. Watch your drive during boot and you're going to see some access taking place that is Blackout loading. One solution is to write a short program to renumber your drives and RamLink so the RamLink is device 8 and then boot Geos. Or if the RamLink has a Swap 8 button like the CMD hard drives do, you could just use that.) If that doesn't work, another way to handle this would be to use my program AutoRunner to load the auto-execs after boot. AutoRunner is available on my home page. (If you do this, you're going to have to delete Blackout from whatever disk it's on, unless you want it to run). Sorry some of this is vague -- as I say, I have never used a RamLink. Let me know if you have further problems. =============================================================================== | irv_cobb@radiks.net http://www.radiks.net/irv_cobb | | "Listen, for I will speak Files for Commodore Geos | | of excellent things..." Below is information from McAfee's Internet home page regarding the LAROUX virus. (McAfee is a company that specializes in the detection and removal of computer virii.) Virus Characteristics - LAROUX is a macro virus, which infects Microsoft Excel spreadsheets within the Microsoft Excel environment. LAROUX is not a destructive virus. It contains no payload. The LAROUX virus infects the PERSONAL.XLS file. The file PERSONAL.XLS is a default filename similar to NORMAL.DOT for Microsoft Word for Windows. If this file does not exist, the virus creates one. After this has been accomplished, any created or accessed spreadsheets are infected. LAROUX uses two macros to replicate. These macros are auto_open and check_files. LAROUX infects Excel versions 5 and 7, under the following Window Platforms: Win 3.1x, Win 95 and Win NT. It does not replicate under Excel versions 3 or 4. Because of the way it searches for PERSONAL.XLS (PERSONAL.XLS is a DOS filename), the virus does not function properly on Macintosh platforms. Indications of Infection - LAROUX includes a hidden worksheet named "laroux." To make it visible, use Windows/Hide, File/UnHide. Method of Infection - The infection spreads from one computer user to another when a LAROUX-infected worksheet is shared and opened by another user. The infected file can be spread via e-mail attachments, floppy diskettes and files exchanged over corporate networks and Intranets. Virus Information: Discovery Date - July, 1996, Origin - Alaska / Africa, Length - Not Applicable, Type - Macro Virus, Prevalence - Rare, Variants - None Known ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 1996 10:32:00 EST From: Christopher McLeod Subject: Pocket Writer printing I have a 64, a Super Graphics Senior printer interface, and a Panasonic KX-P2124 printer. I am trying to get Pocket Writer to print to my printer. Many different printer selections get it to print the text, but what driver (and combination of dip switch settings) should I select to get it to print all formatting options (e.g., bold, italic, etc.)? I can get bold, underline, super and subscript to work on an MPS1000/IBM setting, but cannot get it to do italics. I saw an option in Pocket Writer to "create" your own printer driver. Is this true? If so, maybe I could just modify the MPS1000/IBM driver so as to do italics. I have the SuperGraphics set with all of the switches in the down position (those of you with a SG interface will know what that means). Thank you so much for your help. My use of Pocket Writer is a switch from GeoWrite. I got tired of not being able to see all of my text on the screen at once, and got tired of the slowness of GeoWrite, and (finally) the unreliability of Geos in general. I LOVE Geos, don't get me wrong, but I would rather use it with a Super CPU (which I understand they have started shipping). Unfortunately, I will not be purchasing a SCPU ($$) (we have our first baby on the way). Thus the switch to Pocket Writer is a welcome one. AND if I can get ALL of these formatting options, I will be in HEAVEN (or at least CLOSE! ;^> ) Thanks! Hmmm... I could not get Italics on my new Star 1000 printer either when using Paperclip. At least not when I tried the printer test. Anyone know how to get italics so that I can check this out?
