My 10 year old nephew just received his first computer (a C64 from me!), but he needs a printer to go with it. Anyone out there have a C= compatible printer he could purchase for the price of shipping? If you live in the bay area (SF, Oakland, etc) that would be the best because of little or no shipping costs. He's only 10, and doesn't have a steady income! ;-) I am SO excited to set him up on his first computer as a Commodore!!! I have learned SO much from mine! Anything else you would be willing to give him would be greatly appreciated as well. I am still using my other 64, and hope to see him get years of enjoyment/use out of his.! :-) Chris McLeod (of the clan MacLeod) PS He will be using PocketWriter so a printer compatible with that would be preferable. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jul 1996 10:31:59 -0700 From: "MICHAEL C. It was only up for a couple months or something. I only tried it once. There is a program called uuxfer.sda(?) on either Funet or U of Waterloo which will uuencode/decode files. Of course, if Mr. McLeod cannot get to either of these FTP sites to get Omega-Q II for himself, then he would not be able to get the uuxfer program either, which brings you back to square one. Another option is to both utilize a name brand BBS on the internet (on each end) and utilize thier mail w/ attachments utilities (like MajorBBS (tm)). This would allow him to DL the file without having to edit and all the other stuff. To locate MajorBBS's (tm) in your area, telnet to gcomm.com and check the BBS lists. And, then, of course, the traditional snail mail method always works (well, almost )... Hope that helps... Denny Springle Accolon@playpen.com MajorBBS is a registered trademark of Galacticomm, Inc. I attach CommNet packets to Internet email for one of the nodes. I download it to the PC and attach it to email. The packets are in PETSCII format and make the trip just fine. The other node simply downloads the file to their Commodore and its in tact. Same goes for any Commodore PRG file. No uuencoding necessary. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jul 1996 23:56:48 -0400 From: Christopher McLeod Subject: Re: Commodore printer anyone (or interface)?
