Well, I've put up an unofficial Novaterm page which also links to the official Novaterm 9.6 site. My page address is http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/3284/nova.html -- Tim Phelps -- The comments I made above are my own. Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 15:11:00 EST From: Christopher McLeod Does anyone out there have any idea as to why my lynx provider would not accept my pico spawning? When I try and do a newsgroup message I get an error message that says "Error spawning editor" and it won't let me send or even create a message. I'm pretty sure that you can compile lynx to disallow spawning of external processes. Some sysadmins use this to prevent users from getting to a shell, if they're using a menuing interface of some sort (sacrilege!). Sometimes I also get a message which says that it does not recognize "vt100-color!". Can any one help out there? :-) I'm not sure about that. Something in the chain is rejecting that emulation. If your TERM is set to vt100, it will probably just not do color. Aaron -------------------------------------------------------- Aaron J. Well, that's really up to you and your sysadmin. Try arm-twisting. If not, do you know of a server in which you've installed the patch that we could connect to to have the SSL encryption? That's not how it works. The SSL patches have to be compiled into the lynx "client" that you are running on your workstation. The client that you use and the server to which you connect both must understand SSL encryption for it to happen. I saw it on a C= site about 2 weeks ago but was unable to d/l it at the time. I since CANNOT remember where it was! :-( Help! It is the BEST utility I have every used. You can imagine my surprise and chagrin when it became corrupted! :-( Thanks in advance! K, for the CMD. While the CMD does have a nice wedge and subpartioning, some of the programming utilities on the Lt. Kernal would be a nice addition for the CMD. :) I've thought about writing a find command for ACE+CMD, but of course it would be very slow, with all the communications that would have to take place to the drive. It occured to me that you could speed it up considerably by writing it to run primarily within the drive RAM itself. For this, though, you'd need a memory map and some programming information for the HD-DOS. Does anyone know where/if this can be had? On a related note, how does one go about upgrading the HD-DOS in a CMD HD? I bought a used HD that has a DOS that's too old for Gateway128, and I'd like to upgrade it. I'm assuming that it's available from CMD, but it's not mentioned on their home page catalog-type info. Aaron -------------------------------------------------------- Aaron J. QLink did a good number (ahem) on us C= users by deleting the indexes to several download areas, including the GEOS area. And, of course, when they closed their doors for good, the simply deleted the rest of them. They are lost. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 1996 14:54:37 PST From: Steven A Cavanaugh Subject: Re: QLink files Tim has a point. If a system is deleted, them probably 95% of the software on them is gone.. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 1996 15:56:38 -0500 From: "SySteM AdMIn(Sys0P)" Subject: Re: QLink files On Tue, 23 Jul 1996, Steven A Cavanaugh wrote: > Tim has a point. If a system is deleted, them probably 95% of the software > on them is gone.. > Actually Q-Link was taken over by America Online about 2 years ago. There was an effort by a few user groups to download as much software as possible before they removed it. I don't know how successful it was. You can possibly try contacting CCUG as they might have been the ones who organized the whole thing. Otherwise, the main FTP sites for Commodore 64/128 files are ftp.funet.fi and ccnga.uwaterloo.ca. (both pub/cbm) Once there, download the CBM FAQ 3.1. It will list just about all of the current CBM FTP sites. It also lists all of the big Magazines devoted to the 64/128 in the past and present and the main CBM order houses. I maintain an Internet Provider here in Sioux Falls, SD. I would like to place all of the CBM software that is available on here, but we cannot handle the bandwidth. If and when we get a real T1 line, I will invest in another 1.6gig SCSI for the server and start another FTP site for CBM. Later Taters! -Dave Engstrom Commodore 64/128 (ab)user. They are lost. Actually what happened was that the QLINK system had a bug in its file system. About a year before they folded they discovered that users uploading new software were overwriting old files on the system. The system had lost track of where everything was stored. They shutdown the upload feature at that point. The same company had also started a new PC network...AOL...and they refused to pull computer programming resources off that venture to help fix the QLINK problem. With no uploads, a potentially corrupted file system and the commodore market on the wain..QLINK pulled the plug. This despite myself and a number of other users volunteering to go through their file system and verify each and every file as correct and help them to trace the problem. Somewhere I have one of their file catalogs, about as thick as a phone book with tons of files listed..what a waste. Lawrence Lawrence F. The GEOS forum was the best place to get questions and answers. I do believe Genie still has a large database of programs, is there anyone with a Genie account who can confirm this? Maybe we can convince them to add there files to a FTP sight someday before they go under, just a suggestion. Seeing what happened to the commodore files in Qlink is one of the reasons I refuse to touch AOL these days. Can you imagine if Qlink had been wise enough to store all those files onto a FTP server before they went out, what an archive we would have! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 1996 22:01:03 -0400 From: Mark Foley Subject: Q link files I found a web site with many old Q-link files.
