"Send mail to incinc@tiac.net the SUBJECT of your message: subscribe db (to subscribe to the Daily Brief)" IN OTHER WORDS: Send an email to incinc@tiac.net and type subscribe db into the subject line and into the message area. That's it. You do not have to type anything else. Like I stated above, they suggest a donation ($25 per year, I think), but they understand if you can't afford it, or just want to check out the service first. Also, they are trying to get advertisers so that the email can continue to be free. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I. It has helped me ALOT in keeping up with world news. I print it out in the morning when I get to work, and then I read it at lunch while I am on my lunch-time walk. (haven't run into anything yet!!! :-) ) Chris McLeod (of the clan MacLeod) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jul 1996 15:47:00 EST From: Christopher McLeod Subject: Lynx commands Hi all! Can anyone tell me how to DOWNLOAD from elm? I can delete, save to local folder, etc. but I want to save to a local DISK. Also, how do I prepare a new message from elm? I think I have looked thoroghly through the help and haven't seen these issues addressed. Gaelyne, I saw that you have a web page and that you are coming out with a book on C= on the net! I am really excited about that! :-) I remember reading something about the problem with Novaterm locking up while using Pine. I have 9.5 and sure enough, it locks up everytime I try to use Pine. Do you know if 9.6 has fixed that? Also, do you think that Concentric would go for the following so that us UNIX users could have SSL encryption? "> Hello Aaron, :-) > > What do you mean by "installing the Lynx patches"? Is this something I would even be able to do with my 64? :-) No, I mean installing them on a Unix system that has lynx. Installing the patches just consists of making some small changes to the source code, and recompiling. However, on the first attempt to recompile, there were several errors, so I'm going to have to go through it again and see what the trouble is. If it works, and you can get your sysadmin to install the patches, you should be able to use Lynx with any secure server that Netscape will talk to. Aaron" Would they consider doing this for us? Thanks so much for all of your help! :-) Hope everyone had a great weekend! Can anyone tell me how to DOWNLOAD from elm? I can delete, save to local folder, etc. but I want to save to a local DISK. You can pipe a message to an external command with "|" , but that probably wouldn't help much. Most download programs (fx, sb, sx) don't take standard input, which makes sense, since if they did, they would have no filename to send to the other end. Your best bet is probably to use "s" to save to a local file, and then transmit that file. When elm saves to a local folder, it really just appends the message in plain ascii to a file, so you can do whatever you want with that. Also, how do I prepare a new message from elm? Just use "m" for new Message. Most of the basic elm commands can be seen by typing "?" twice. I think I have looked thoroghly through the help and haven't seen these issues addressed. On some systems, elm doesn't even have much help beyond a simple listing of commands. Aaron -------------------------------------------------------- Aaron J.
