CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER (TM) NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE COMMODORE 64/128 GENRE: Flight Simulation Current Availability and Price: Commodore 64/128 - $34.95 Electronis Arts, 1820 Gateway Drive, San Mateo, California 94404 announces "CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER". The following is the text from their release information brochure. SAN MATEO, CA., October 9, 1987 -- Electronic Arts today announced the release of CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER for the Commodore 64/128. The program, currently a best-seller for the IBM, Tandy and compatibles, was co-designed by General Yeager and includes his flight training and aeronautic expertise, resulting in a program which simulates flying the way Chuck Yeager flies. "Now flight simulation fans can learn to do more in the air than just sightsee," said Bing Gordon, Vice President of Electronic Arts' Entertainment Division. "General Yeager is the kind of pilot who enjoys high-speed thrills, and sightseeing isn't his style. It was his idea to make CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER the first flight simulator that gives the user a chance to test and fly formation with real and experimental aircraft a mach speeds." General Yeager worked closely with software artist Ned Lerner in developing CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER. The program uses a super-fast frame rate that lets the user really experience the thrill of mach-speed flight. "The technology used in this product represents a giant leap forward in flight simulation, and a lot of what you see here will be imitated by our competitors," Gordon noted. The simulation features three levels of onscreen instruction from General Yeager. The first level teaches basic flying skills like takeoffs and landings; the second goes on to advanced maneuvers like aileron rolls and hammerhead stalls. By the third level, the student pilot is learning acrobatic stunts, and is ready to use the Formation Flying feature, following Yeagers's lead through death-defying obstacle courses and 3-D terrain. There is also a Flight Recorder that allows students to create and store their own stunt flying patterns. CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER also features a Test Pilot Option, which offers a selection of 14 aircraft to check out, using actual test pilot aircraft evaluation charts. Users can strap themselves into the cockpit of the Bell X-1, and relive the historic day when Yeager crashed the sound barrier. The program includes historic aircraft like the Sopwith Camel F-1, the Spad XIII, and Yeager's favorite, the P-51 Mustang -- plus modern planes like the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-16, and the F-18. Users can even test-fly one of the three experimental planes -- just like General Yeager, you're on your own with an unknown machine! General Yeager concurs: "The simulation is very realistic, I'll tell you. The guys at Electronic Arts have taken the terror factor out of test piloting and made it fun for everybody." The program also includes an Airplane Racing option, which lets the "computer pilot" choose a plane and take it over one of six different racecourses. The computer controls your competitors, and records your course results. CHUCK YEAGER'S ADVANCED FLIGHT TRAINER is currently available for the Commodore 64/128, IBMPC,XT,AT, and compatibles; and the Tandy 1000, 1000SX, and 1000EX. For the IBM, Tandy and compatibles, the program supports CGA, EGA, and fully compatible graphics adapters. It requires DOS 2.0 or higher. ### 30 ###
