ACCOLADE ADDS REALISTIC FOOTBALL SIMULATION TO GAME LINE UP ANAHEIM, CA. October 3, 1987 -- Accolade, Inc., designer of the baseball simulation hit, "Hardball, " announced here at the 1987 Commodore Show the release of its football simulation game "4th & Inches" that incorporates 22 players, a full width and length field and realistic game play. "4th & Inches" is an action oriented football simulation featuring 20 plays and 11 different formations. The field view is that of the spotter in the press box. The view centers on the action and the view changes as the play progresses, giving the user a truly unique perspective of the play action. A one or two player game, "4th & Inches" is completely joystick controlled. Throughout the game play, the users will alternate between offensive or defensive control. When playing on offensive, the action is controlled through the player carrying the ball, starting with the quarterback. In a defensive situation the play is controlled through the key defensive player. The user can choose plays on a menu that reads much like a manager's play selection card. The user has two primary screens available to him during the course of the game: the field showing the play action, which includes the menu selection of both offensive and defensive plays and the coaches' statistical screen detailing the players' height, weight, performance, etc. The game starts with a play selection from the play menu after which the action shifts to the field. The players break the huddle and line-up to commence the selected play. After each play has been completed the statistical screen appears with the outcome of the previous play. Once the outcome has been established, the next play is selected from the play menu. As the coach of the team, either offensively or defensively, the user needs to keep track of the players. To add to the realism of the football simulation, "4th & Inches" has a built-in feature where the players start out with a certain amount of energy, but, as the game progresses, the energy level reduces according to the number and type of plays. Designed by Bob Whitehead, "4th & Inches" is currently available for the Commodore 64/128 in October 1987 at a suggested retail price of $29.95.
