IMHO -Whizzie ------------ Category 1, Topic 5 Message 8 Sun Jul 28, 1991 C128-BILL [Bill] at 21:06 EDT Hiya, Whizzie !! 'Tis true that this B.B. (and all other Computer Specific B.B.'s) will cost ya. Maybe someday we will see that changed, but right now the BEST way to use this Bulletin Board is with Wizard's Auto command. Here are some tips for keeping your online costs down: 1. Plan ahead. Figure out what you want to do before you go online. 2. Collect general information. Buffer the B.B.'s index (use the IND B.B. command), buffer the Major Categories in both the B.B. and Library. I'd also buffer the Survival Kit. Print out your buffers for future reference, including the Main FlagShip menus. 3. Order (or buffer) the GEnie Manual. 4. While on-line, use the MOVE command. For example 'M625;1' will get you directly into the FlagShip B.B. from just about anywhere online. Wizard does this for you! 5. Non-Wizard users should log on with this command: [at the U#= Prompt] XYZ12345,PASSWORD,625 This command should get you directly into the FlagShip without navigating the menus. 6. Read the GENIEus RoundTable Bulletin Board for more tips and hints. GENIEus B.B. is a GEnie*BASIC Service. 7. Use Wizard's Auto B.B. grabber, and New Library File collector. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox, and again Welcome you to GEnie !! ------------ Category 1, Topic 5 Message 9 Sun Jul 28, 1991 WHIZZIE at 22:17 EDT Well, actually, yeah, I do that auto stuff. Wizard is super for grabbing messages and storing them away for me to read offline. Now if there were a way to tell it to do more than one thing per phone call, I'd be in seventh heaven. (I do so hate that automatic "bye" at the end; I often want it to pick up messages from 2 or 3 bb's - AND my mail. ::sigh::) Even so ... I went from "ugh, icons, I'll **never** use **that**" to "Gads, there's NO WAY to get along on GEnie without it!" .. in about 2 or 3 days. Nice work! -Whizzie P.S. Used to call a bbs in 212 A/C that wasn't Commodore specific, but had the most spectacular opening screen I've ever seen anywhere. It ran ANSI. It is called the Doctor's Board, but its thrust was mostly about motorcycling, which didn't interest me, so I wasn't a regular. However, whenever I felt in a show-off mode for a visitor, I'd sign on just to demo the intro. There are a few Commodore bbs's around. I'll have to hunt for the numbers and let you know. I wonder if there is a pgm dedicated to this task? I think a sideways printing feature would be mandatory but I was thinking of something like the greeting card format. Most greeting card format pgms are too limited in text size and number of lines to be any good. Tom Simpson ------------ Category 3, Topic 21 Message 22 Sun Jul 28, 1991 H.HERMAN1 at 05:16 EDT Tom, I quess you're referring to splitting a page into four parts, with one half the page printing upside down, so when folded it is a four paged card printed upright? The only utility that I know of that does this, is BasicPrint. This comes, along with other utilities as a part of the Basic8 package. Hope this is what you had in mind. Howie ------------ Category 3, Topic 21 Message 23 Sun Jul 28, 1991 H.HERMAN1 at 11:39 EDT Tom, One more thought... If all you're interested in is ordinary ascii printing, but sideways for a large fan-fold `pamphlet' format, you might take a look at Digital's Pocket Planner. Yes! Their spread sheet program. It has its own internal sideways printing feature, and you can easilly enter regular sequential test for the printout. I'm not sure sas to the extent of horizontal printing, but it should extend out for at least several hundred columns. The one part that would have to be attended to manually would be aligning up those multi-columned folds, since all you would be presented with is one large area in which to enter things. Hmm... Pocket Writer3 has a multi-column printing feature. Even odd/even page printing. However it doesn't have a sideways printing capability built in. I'm sorta doing this as I go along, so I'll try not to ramble too much... One interesting approach might be using Writer3's multi- columned feature for writing and editing. When done, printing to disk snd then entering that disk file into Planner2 for sideways printing. Ah! That might be the ticket! BTP should do nicely. Just start with its vt100 emulation, and make whatever changes are needed. As long as you know what the host will send, for example to clear your screen, entering it into BTP will have it respond correctly. [BTW, BTP's default vt100 settings are not complete, and several additions should be made for near 100% compatability.] Oh! BTP cannot respond to ANSI graphics, so if this is part of TeleVideo 950, then you might want to use something else, maybe BellTerm, instead. I get a directory listing on side A, but side B seems to have never been formatted. Both the manual and disk label indicate that there should be function libraries on side B. Is this right? If so, can someone help me get a copy of it. I don't need the C-package just side B of the c128 disk. Hope this looks o.k. as I'm not use to the Bboard. thanks in advance. I'll check back in a week or so.
