Yes, I've discovered CS-DOS many years ago and also its programs lha, lhx and lhd. However we're talking here about archives with the .lha extensio= n which are not dissolved by CS-DOS' lhx because they use the lh5 compressi= on method. That is disappointing to hear (re: RAMlink w/Kernal). I was thinking about getting a RAMlink. Any word on compatibility of the Lt. Kernal w/ SuperCPU?? I can't afford to switch to a CMD HardDrive just to get a SuperCPU. Wanderer ALSO wrote (a while back): >> >> You know, I never knew that the Lt. Kernal system was contained in a >> cartridge! Yep. All that's in the case is the drive itself and a Power Supply. For a while I was using a PC case for the drive. Much better Power Supply (especially considering the age of my Kernal) and I could mount the Multiplexer inside, etc. One of these days I'll get motivated enough to mount an SX-64 inside a tower with the Lt. Kernal. Tell me (maybe some CMD Guru or other person 'in the know'), will the CMD drive every be Multi-plexable? I've done it on a 1571 myself... it's a bit tricky. You should only attempt for the following reasons: *You can't find any pro's that'll do it. *You can't afford to have a pro do it. *You feel comfortable fishing around the inards of you drive. *Your willing to except the fact that you might screw up your drive even = worse I'ts been years since I tryed did it, but I'll give you the basics of wha= t I did. You'll need 3 things: 1 - a disk formated in 1571 double sided mode. (I used a systems disk tha= t was double sided... You need a disk with the tracks set correctly) 2 - A set of fine tools. 3 - you'll need to write a small BASIC program that does this: This is psudo-code Sector =3D 1 OPEN DRIVE_CONTROL_CHANNEL LOOP FOR Track =3D Min_track TO Max_track READ_DRIVE (Track, Sector) Error_message =3D READ_ERROR_CHANNEL Print Track; Error_message NEXT Track GOTO LOOP Look in the drive manual for the command to read a block in... that's all= you have to do with it... There's an adjustment screw or retainer (I forget, it's been a long time)= near the drive head... Check it out FIRST!... carefully adjust slightly one-wa= y then the other and run the program with the preformated 1571 for a while.= .. if you can get at the adjusting mech. while drive is running (which is what = I think I did) run the program while your adjusting it... Eventually when the drive is in alignment, you'll get all "00" error messages... (run it through a LOT of test loops) This is not a perfect solution, but I never had alignment problems after that. If no matter how long you try you can't get a good read, the problem my b= e the rotation speed... which is adjustable... but you need a strobe for that..= . I've been told the light from your monitor/TV screen strobes at the corre= ct speed for this kind of adjustment... but I've never tryed that. #! rnews 1837 Path: pravda.aa.msen.com!news1.best.com!nntp04.primenet.com!news.shkoo.co= m!nntp.primenet.com!news.mathworks.com!newsfeed.internetmci.com!news.soft= disk.com!usenet From: Jeff Jones Newsgroups: comp.sys.cbm Subject: person wants to sell computer Date: Thu, 01 Aug 1996 15:55:46 -0500 Organization: Loadstar Lines: 37 Message-ID: <320119D2.2286@softdisk.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: tty028.softdisk.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=3D"------------61CB525C1C44" X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.02Gold (Win95; I) This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------61CB525C1C44 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=3Dus-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Please respond to this person via Email if you're interested. ...JJ --------------61CB525C1C44 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Received: from mail.airmail.net (server-f.iadfw.net [206.66.12.40]) by se= rver1.softdisk.com (8.7.5/8.7.3) with SMTP id JAA09530 for ; Thu, 1 Aug 1996 09:25:09 -0500 (CDT) Received: by mail.airmail.net (/\##/\ Smail3.1.30.16 #30.73) id ; Thu, 1 Aug 96 09:20:00 -0500 (CDT= ) Message-Id: From: joseph atkins To: loadstar@softdisk.com Date: Thu, 01 Aug 1996 09:20:27 -0500 X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 Dear loadstar, i have been a customer for about five years but recently changed comput= ers, so now i am trying to find someplace to sell my used commodores and software. it would help me if you or any one else could let me know if th= ere is a bulletin board on the web or anyone who is looking for anything. ple= ase let me know if you can help. thanks kathy --------------61CB525C1C44-- #! rnews 662 Path: pravda.aa.msen.com!spool.mu.edu!news.sgi.com!newsfeeder.sdsu.edu!nn= tp04.primenet.com!news.shkoo.com!nntp.primenet.com!news.mathworks.com!new= sfeed.internetmci.com!news.ptd.net!news From: bseeley@prolog.net (bseeley) Newsgroups: comp.sys.cbm Subject: WTB Commodore Plus 4 Date: 2 Aug 1996 03:24:08 GMT Organization: ProLog - PenTeleData, Inc.
