The going price is wild as they are much in demand as used stuff (no new ones available) and the price depends on how badly you want it. I wouldnt sell one for less than $125 if in good working condition. The FD2000 I just received is an even snazier drive and its made by CMB. Yes, I know that it was quite a waste of bandwith -- I'm the first one to admit it. I thought that the disk was fuller than it really was. I'm sorry about that. I generally distribute d64 files in zipped format, but for some reason, I didn't zip this one. The problem is that I don't have any good programs to create other archive formats. I *could* use ARC128 or LYNX or something on my Commodore, but it's so slow. What I would like is a program to convert from a D64 file to a LYNX archive, or something like that. A .T64 image would probably have been a wiser choice for that posting. \\// Peter - m9944@abc.se - Fidonet 2:204/145.42 - May not be distributed via the microsoft network #! rnews 1499 Path: pravda.aa.msen.com!news1.best.com!news.texas.net!news.kei.com!newsf= eed.internetmci.com!howland.reston.ans.net!spool.mu.edu!olivea!hal.COM!ne= ws.ucsc.edu!news.ucsc.edu!hermit From: hermit@cats.UCSC.EDU (William R. Now, remembering the condition in which I originally received the software, I may be bordering on insulting a few of you. The entire software package (including the manual) was wrapped in plastic (I don't think it was shrink-wrapped but loosely wrapped and sealed). Clearly visible while looking at it from the front was the license agreement itself. In large, bold print, in two lines at the top of the page was:= =20 =20 BEFORE YOU OPEN THE PACKAGE=20 READ THIS FIRST!=20 =20 Very easily read, it the page displays license agreement and the first 3 articles of it (the remainder are on the reverse side).=20 =20 I am going to quote Article 1 and insert comments as I go. Please bear with me:=20 =20 1. LICENSE GRANT=20 =20 Licensor hereby grants to you, and you accept, a nonexclusive license to use the Security Key, the Program Diskette and the computer programs contained therein in machine-readable, object code form only (collectivel= y referred to as the "Software"), and the accompanying User Documentation, only as authorized in this License Agreement. The Software may be used only on a single computer owned, leased, or otherwise controlled by you; = or in the event of the inoperability of that computer, on a backup computer selected by you. Neither concurrent use o= n two or more computers nor use in a local area network or other network is permitted without separate authorization and the payment of other license fees. =20 You agree that you will not assign, sublicense, transfer, pledge, lease, rent, or share your rights under this License Agreement. You agree that you may not reverse assemble, reverse compile, or otherwise translate the Software.=20 =20 Of couse, theres more legal jargon in the remainder of the articles. It goes on to say that you can make only one backup of the program diskette = in the case the original is destroyed or unusable, and can make one copy of the manual for backup purposes. Some of this is really silly, but I can understand what the intent is. I don't use the original CKit diskette, I have it installed on the hard drive. I have a copy on the other hard drive. I'm not even sure I have the original diskette anymore. Oh well,= I guess I didn't comply with the agreement since I don't have an original diskette and one backup diskette.=20 =20 The point is, I can only run one computer at a time. I am positive I am complying with the intent of the agreement. And as I mentioned before so uneloquently, the only drawback is that I have to transport the dongle ba= ck and forth between states in order to use either one. That, in itself, is risky business as I've lost it twice. Of course I found it again each time, but it would be nice to be able to not worry about it. As one of m= y correspondents mentioned, she was on a flight from point A to point B and worried about whether she had forgotten the dongle when she packed.=20 =20 No, I won't be buying any more software that's dongle protected if I can help it. CKit is a good piece of software ruined by an unnecessary hardware add-on. Let me key in on this. It is NOT a GREAT piece of software, although it could have been if it had used a tighter algorithm (such as arc, arj or zip) and if it had been made to work on a C128 in it= 's 2 mhz 80 column mode.=20 =20 I guess the old adage is true: You can't have your cake and eat it too!=20 #! rnews 904 Path: pravda.aa.msen.com!news1.best.com!nntp.primenet.com!news.mathworks.= com!newsfeed.internetmci.com!chi-news.cic.net!news.isl.net!mmiller3 From: mmiller3@sparc.isl.net (Michael Miller) Newsgroups: comp.sys.cbm Subject: The Big Red Q...
