The info I got has allowed me to run a number of games & progr= ams=20 from the library of a friend of mine. As a consequence, I've discovered what appear to be some minor=20 hardware problems w/ my C64. Two things: 1) When a joystick is plugged into port #2, the computer will not register any up/north movement of the joystick. The other directions and the fire button are OK. I've determined that the problem is with the=20 port/computer, not the joystick, since joystick port 1 works fine. 2) While for the most part the color and graphics seem fine, there are some situations in which colors are not displayed as they should be.=20 I have two examples. In the game "Lords of Conquest," all the map territories are displayed in white, making the game practically unplayable. Also, in the game "M.U.L.E.," there's a point early on when the computer asks the player to choose a color. The patch of color that's displayed is white, and stays white when you try to change it.=20 (Further, the colony map in MULE is white and gray -- the only color that shows up is an occasional colored square which highlights individual territories. Shouldn't there be more color in this display -- e.g., shouldn't the energy/food/mining equipment installed in each territory be displyed in the players' colors, instead of in gray?) These could be software-related problems, I suppose, but I wonder if it could be a bad hardware connection/component?=20 Any suggestions in the way of diagnosis and treatment? Please=20 reply to marler@fas.harvard.edu. Thanks! J. Eric.
