As for my CBM joysticks, the cat chewed through the cable on one, and I dropped(oops) a TV on the other, so if anyone wants a three piece stick, just ask. Anyhow, NO! Do not put your genesis pad on your CBMs! They have a different pin configuration, and can lead to some pretty, uh, well, don't use them. There _is_, and I saw it a couple of years ago, at a KMART electoronics section, and I'm sure they are still around somewhere, an adapter. It let your plug their generic joystick into any system with a snap on adapter, it came with two, for super-nintendo, and genesis. They whole racks for ones on different systems, and I am positive I saw some for CBM compatibles. The worst you could do is go around to junk sales and buy old atari systems. In fact, the author owns every copy of C'Kit ever made. By opening the box, you contractually agreed that you were granted a temporary license to USE the program. The author may terminate this license at any time. Additionally, the license probably stipulates that you are only allowed to have a maximum of 1 backup copy of the program (for archival purposes only!). That also means that you CANNOT run more than one copy of the program on two computers at the same time! If you want to do that, you'll need to get another license (and another dongle). I don't like software licenses any more than you do, but virtually all commercial software is distributed this way. However, if C'Kit is distributed differently, then please disregard the above rant ;-) Phil -- Philip C. Wanderer) Boy, talk about hitting at the heart of computer piracy... I usually sit on the other side of this fence but this time I just can't resist the urge to play devil's advocate... The question (in question) is wether or not your purchase of a software package means YOU now own all the code and rights to that one single copy (to use as you see fit) or if the author owns the code exclusively and it is the authors discretion of how the code is to be used. In effect, does purchasing a software title become a "lease" you have to use the authors code and your rights are under the discretion of the author? Or, once you pay good money for code that everyone else could have gotten for free entitle you to exclusive rights of the code (short of distributing it and/or selling it to others) to do what ever you want to with it... Clearly there are vastly different opinions on this point. In my opinion, once you buy a program it should be at your discretion as to how the program is to be used but I don't buy much (if any) software so I really don't have alot of room to talk... BUT, if in fact, you feel that the program is some great wonderful acheivement in software technology and the price isn't rediculus, it only makes sense to support the author monotarily. (very few C64 programs, in my opinion, fall into this catagory- the first on my list is DISK MAINTENANCE, the second is ZIP CODE- and I have to say, if I was a PC user, WINDOWS would NOT be worth the powder to blow it to hell...) Neither here nor there- I would say, it depends on your need... I don't think it is cool for you to be asking others openly to "de-protect" YOUR software... If it is worth de-protecting to you, YOU should do the work... I think your money would be much better spent buying another dongle... Also, the type of protection comes into play here... I have MUCH greater respect for the dongle than I do for the "software" protect that can mess you your hardware and/or refuse to load if your equipment is not 100% The dongle is by far more elegant and that gives your request a "sleezy" tone... Well, don't take these words here too seriously- I didn't type them with a sturn look on my face and I really don't have a set moral code when it comes to piriating software- it depends on the situation... Later mates, Radioactive Warrior
