Would this cause damage? I don't > know if it matters: I live in Germany, where the current is at > a 50 Hz frequency. Thanks to anyone who has an answer| It probably wouldn't work. The power supply inside the 1541 is quite a bit beefier than the 1541-II outboard. Look at the size of the transformer alone. Both supplies put out +5V and +12V, but the outboard supply would be overloaded. It was designed to run a drive that has fewer and more integrated (and CMOS) chips, hence a lower power consumption. If you wanted to outboard a switching supply to feed the drive, it certainly would run cooler. +5 and +12 volts are standard voltages for computers... you could probably find an after-market unit that would do the job. Running anything with a transformer (I'm speaking of analog supplies) in it on 50 Hertz when it was designed for 60 Hertz will usually work (disregarding the conversion up/down from 120 volts to 240 volts), except it will run slightly hotter due to greater losses in the transformer. A higher frequency is more efficient. That's why switchers run in the KHz (1000s of Hertz) range. The reverse is also true... if a transformer made for 50 Hz is run on 60Hz, it will run cooler. Note that 3DO controllers use the same 9 pin D-shape connector, they do not work (and I don't recommend plugging them in!) I've read the FAQ's and special-interest pages, but I need the opinions of those who actually use some of these tools. I'm looking for a cross-compiler or assembler of the following varieties: C or a C subset Forth 65xx/85xx Cross assembler. I'm looking for a 6502 cross-assembler either way that will run on an Intel/MS-DOS PC. If worse comes to worse, I may have to make a stab at porting ( or finding a port of ) Small-C so that it generates 6502 rather than 808x. In addition, are there suppliers that can provide cartridges for ROMmable C64 software? Thanks! I talked my friend out of his oldest Commodore posession. I have in my hot little hands, an authentic, true to life, Commodore CBM D9060 hard disk! It is a thing of great beauty (not to mention heavy; it weighs a ton!). IEEE-488 interface, stylish off-white case, the famouse Commodore logo. It's also got a bit of rust, being in my friend's attic for over 6 years... I haven't plugged it in to see if it works yet... I want to hook it up to my CBM 8296... Just think... I now have 5Mb worth of storage! In PET terms, that's just about infinite! Delirious with glee, pm -- Paul Mora email: pmora@ibm.net ... I'd rather be boarding... =END=
