The costs of setting up and running a payphone network are huge (as Mercury found to their cost in the UK) and I'm sure that the telecos will be looking for every opportunity to recoup their investment. That said, the last I heard of BT's `test' of this market was to install a couple of PCs equipped with touchscreens and ISDN links. Not the most cost effective solution - especially since the NC is so much cheaper than a PC and twisted pair should be perfectly adequate for basic text and graphics (and even FMV if the right codecs are used). >> In fact, public NC's will be the >> best way to get new people online.
